Not sure about christianity?

Why God?

(More to the point - why not God?)

Everyone has something (or someone) that they put before everything else in their lives. For some people it's work or money, for others it's romantic love and for many, it's themselves. Have you ever asked yourself, "do these things really satisfy"? Have you ever felt that you weren't made to 'do life' alone?

Why not consider the possibility that you were created to live knowing, loving and being loved by God. A God next to whom any other thing (work, love, money etc) pales in comparison. Could that be a better and more fulfilling way to live?

What's different about Christianity?

Many other faiths or religions seem to focus on what we have to do or achieve to get right with a 'higher power' or God. In contrast Christianity s all about what God has done for us.

C.S. Lewis (author of The Chronicles of Narnia) summed this up when he once said that what makes Christianity different is grace. Grace means there's nothing we can do to earn God's love and forgiveness (and there's nothing that we could do to keep Him from loving us). His love is a 'gift' available to everyone - no matter who you are or what you've done. Does unconditional forgiveness and love sound good to you?

What does it mean to be 'a Christian'?

Being a Christan is NOT about thinking you're better than everyone else is.

It is NOT about being a 'bible-basher' or a 'do-gooder'.

In fact, the first step to becoming a Christian is admitting that we need God. We need His love. We need His forgiveness for the way we've lived our lives.

Another part of being a Christian is accepting that the only way to know God is through Jesus' death on the cross. When Jesus died and was raised from the dead He was paying the price for us. It's only through this act of sacrifice that we have the gift of knowing God. It doesn't end there though.

Once we've admitted that we need God, accepted that Jesus' death provides us with a 'free pass' to know God, we're given a clean slate to start our lives afresh and the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us.

Our part in this is a commitment to get to know God better, live a life that respects our relationahip with Him and shows His love to others. As Christians we are guaranteed a life with God, full of His love. We also have the promise of living forever with God in heaven.

Sound good to you?
